Gulab Jamun

Gulab jamun is almost everyone’s favorite and is one of the most popular Indian sweets that are popularly prepared during festivals, parties, weddings etc. This sweet is extremely delicious, juicy and just melts in the mouth.
At my home everybody just loves gulab jamuns.
It is generally made from fresh khoya/mawa or milk powder as  the key ingredient that is mixed with other ingredients.
Here I'm going to use fresh mawa to make these lovely jamuns.

Ingredients :

  1. Mawa / Khoya - 1/2 kg
  2. Maida / all purpose flour - 2 tbsp
  3. Water/ Milk - to make the dough
  4. Salt - a pinch
  5. Rose water - 1/2 tsp
  6. Sugar -  3 cups
  7. Water - 1 cup
  8. Cardamom  - 4 powdered
  9. Oil - to fry

Method :

  1. Mix the grated Mawa , flour and salt together. Knead well.
  2. Add sufficient water / milk to make a soft dough.
  3. Cover and keep aside for about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Now divide the dough into small portions and make them into smooth crack free balls. Don't make large balls as the jamuns will expand in size on frying and further on soaking in syrup.
  5. Heat oil in a wok on medium heat and add the jamuns gently one by one. Fry until they are golden brown in color. Do not overcrowd the jamuns.
  6. Simultaneously mix sugar and water to make the sugar syrup. Bring to a boil.
  7. Add cardamom powder and rose water to the syrup and cook till it attains one thread consistency.
  8. Put the fried jamuns directly into the warm sugar syrup and let them soak.
  9. Serve hot or cold as you like. I like 'em hot with ice cream...Yummy.

Enjoy and Good luck : )
